Be Part of Hope’s Kitchen

Hope’s Kitchen relies on volunteers to help us serve our community with dignity, care, and kindness. Every role matters and helps us provide warm meals to those who need them.

Volunteer Roles

If you have skills, talents, or ideas you would like to contribute, we would love to hear from you. Every gift of time and ability makes a difference.

Meal Prep

Responsibilities include:

  • Making salads or vegetables
  • Arranging bread or desserts on trays
  • Preparing lemonade and coffee
  • Assisting with light cooking or warming tasks

Time commitment: 4:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Serving Meals

Volunteers serve guests in an assembly-line style while wearing gloves and using utensils.

Greeter

Greeters welcome guests with a friendly smile and help create a warm and welcoming environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Greeting guests as they arrive
  • Asking guests to sign in
  • Collecting meal coupons if provided
  • Explaining that meals are free, and donations are optional

Time commitment: 4:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Cleanup

Cleanup Volunteers help keep the kitchen and dining areas clean and organized so the space is ready for future use.

Responsibilities include:

  • Washing dishes, utensils, and serving items

  • Performing light cleanup duties in the kitchen and dining areas

  • Wiping down tables and food service surfaces

  • Taking out trash and replacing liners as needed

  • Assisting with other cleanup tasks as requested

Time commitment: 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Table Support

Table support volunteers help ensure guests have what they need during the meal.

Responsibilities include:

  • Offering drink refills
  • Clearing plates and bringing seconds
  • Supporting a respectful and welcoming dining environment

At least one volunteer in this role must be an adult who is comfortable helping maintain a safe and respectful atmosphere. Hope’s Kitchen maintains a zero-tolerance approach to harassment or disruptive behavior.

Time commitment: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Social Media and Content Support

This volunteer helps share Hope’s Kitchen’s mission with the community through photos, videos, and posts for social media

Content ideas and posts are submitted for approval before publishing.

Board Members

The Hope’s Kitchen board meets monthly, typically on Saturday mornings.

Board members help guide the organization and support areas such as:

  • Meal planning and coordination
  • Administrative tasks
  • Marketing and outreach
  • Receiving food deliveries from Feeding South Dakota
  • Supporting volunteer activities and events
  • Other duties as needed

Board members typically contribute 4-6 hours per month, depending on availability.
